Question/Comment:
i have been taking levothyroxine for over a year. At first I had higher energy levels....but now my Dr said she overmedicated me and has tod me to stop the pill one day a week. I have not lost any weight and was always thin prior to the thyroid problms. I am starting to feel sluggish again. Should I ask for a change in the medication?

Question/Comment:
I have been told by every pharmacist that there is a significant difference between Synthroid and generics (which is the only brand/generic I have been warned about). Also, my endo is adamant I take my Synthroid upon waking in the morning, with distilled water, and nothing else by mouth for an hour. He monitors me closely for med/blood levels (I also have diabetes 2 and take Vytorin for high cholesterol) and says my numbers are "perfect." More to the point, I feel just fine after years of up-&-down and so-so.

Answer/Reply:
That is weird. I started off taking Synthroid and then I switched to the generic brand. When I was taking the real thing, I seemed to do alot better with it. Now that I'm taking the generic(levothryoxine), it seems to not do anything for me. I am tired all the time, I have gained some weight. What exactly did the pharmacist say was the difference. Just curious...

Question/Comment:
I have been on Synthroid for 15 years. Last year, my doctor changed my cholesterol medication which I had to take in the morning. One year later, my thryoid hormone was out of balance. After researching both medications, I now take my cholesterol medication 2 hours AFTER I take Synthroid. Two months later, my TSH is back to normal.

Question/Comment:
i take synthroid and have been taking it for years and i just don't know if it is working like it should, all i do know is that i have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and that is why they put me on it, my mom has grave's disease and has had her thyroid shrunk with radioactive iodine twice and she is still having problems and now they say her para-thyroid is the reason. i guess what i am trying to say is she had hers shrunk and my mother-in-law had hers surgically removed and both of them still have to take the same medication as i do so what was the purpose of them having the procedures that they had done if they still have to take the medicine anyway. i know i don't have anymore energy which i thought that i would and i am still gaining weight and i just don't understand? what is the true purpose of taking this medicine? i mean nothing changes in you not in my opinion except my mood swings sometimes...
