Question/Comment:
I started taking Chantix in April. Had taken it for 3 weeks and was doing fine on the no smoking part...after 49 years of smoking...but went to the blood bank to give blood and my blood pressure was 195/97.....he thought it was the cuff so got a different one but it was me. I stopped taking the Chantix and bp is now back to normal. But I'm not smoking either. Still times when I want one but had already decided I was going to quit.

Question/Comment:
I started the program at the end of April, and think it is a great product. It has cut the desire for smoking to almost nothing. Of course when around others that are smoking, I don't stick around...mainly cause it stinks, and I don't want to put myself in the position to want to have one. I still have to tell myself this is it, no more smoking, and ask for help from the Man upstairs... I have the side effect of nausea, I try to take it about 5min after eating. I have "misplaced" the desire to have my morning coffee.. I guess about the only thing about not smoking is the "social" time! But that too is a condition of thought...I have more free time to get things done cause I'm not taking smoke breaks...I do feel much better, I don't pant going uphill like I used to !! Good luck, to all it does work, but you have to work at it and want to stop.

Question/Comment:
I have been taking chantix now for 3 weeks. I've tried numerous smoking aids in the past, but they did'nt work. I have not smoked a cigarette in over a week and the craving is going away. At first you do have a few side effects which varies with each individual. My side effects included nauseau and being a little irritable. They seem to have subsided and I always take the Chantix after I've eaten something. I'm also on prescription drugs for all kinds of illnesses, but so far no interactions. I suggest anyone serious about quitting smoking to ask your doctor about Chantix. I going to quit this time after about 30 years of smoking. Good luck!

Answer/Reply:
My husband, best friend, her husband and myself all started taking Chantix at the same time. Within a few days we started noticing that we were only smoking half the cigarette then putting them out, then a few days later, taking a drag and walking around with it not smoking it at all. After a week, all of us had quit. My husband and I even went to a casino (lots of smoking going on in there) and neither of us had the urge to smoke. CAUTION- Listen to your doctor when he/she says to continue taking for a few months after you quit. I started again when my dad got sick and passed away and it took about a month that time.
As far as side effects: My self and my friends husband had dry mouth (no biggie), myself and my friend had strange dreams (very entertaining lol, but nothing scary), and my husband had upset stomache if he didn't have food with it.
My final opinion: Good by far outweighs the Bad.

I smoked for 28 years, I started Chantix on July 12 and now 5 weeks later I have been smoke free for 4 weeks. I still occasionally think about smoking but have made up my mind that there will be no more cigarettes! I used the Chantix for 1 month , 1week of white pills and 3 weeks on the blue pills, I have not had to get the script refilled. Good Luck to you!

Question/Comment:
OK, here's something interesting that I would like to share with people who already have depression and suicidal thoughts and are considering taking Chantix: after about a month on Chantix, I started to notice that I was less depressed, having fewer mood swings and not suicidal at all. When I brought this up to my health care provider she suggested that perhaps my depression had been caused by nicotine use since I had been smoking for about 4 or 5years before I developed depression. However, I would be interested to hear about anyone else who experiences this same result. I think it's possible that Chantix could work as an anti-depressant.
