Question/Comment:

I took 14 days ofCcipro in December 2007 & January 2008, and in June started experiencing pain in my right arm & shoulder which gradually worsened. My doctor has now diagnosed bicep tendinitis. Could this be related to the Cipro, or would the symptoms have occurred whle I was actually taking the medication?

Answer/Reply from iGuard:

Tendinitis and tendon rupture can occur any time during or after finishing treatment with Cipro. The FDA has received reports of cases occurring up to several months after finishing of therapy. If you think your symptoms might be related to your Cipro use, you can report your case to the FDA Medwatch Program http://www.fda.gov/medwatch/report/consumer/consumer.htm

Answer/Reply:

Regarding the arm and shoulder problem, I had the same thing happen after 14 days of Cipro, but it was my knees and somewhat my right shoulder. It was worse in my right knee, but after favoring the very painfull right. knee, then my left knee started hurting worse and worse. Both knees swelled only slightly, with both feeling spongy around the side of the kneecap. I ultimately used a cane to get around. After three weeks of pain, I went to a Duke University Orthopedic group and after x-rays and a couple of trips (over more than two months), was told me the pain was not related to the Cipro,, that I had plenty of cartilage in my knees and saying it would get better. Well, it did after about 4 more weeks and a lot of pain and pain pills.

This happened once before, but I did not relate it to Cipro as I was having other problems and had not reason to blame the drug. Cipro really took care of urinary tract infection which I have had in the past. The pain in the knees is better to the point I can walk normally but still bothers me at times. NO MORE CIPRO FOR ME.

Question/Comment:

I have taken this family of drugs before; but, last week experienced a severe allergic reaction 10 minutes after taking the first dose. I broke out in a rash, wheezing, tightness in chest; and, swelling of hands and face. The rash covered my arms, face and legs. The doctor had to give me a shot of steriod; and, benydryl.
