Question/Comment:

I don't know what I would do without Aciphex. I suffer from a hiatal hernia and GERD. I have tried ALL of the over the counter products, to no avail. I was taking 300mg of Zantac and occassional Tums, when I was finally brave enough to admit to my doctor I was having problems. I immediately went to an ENT and was scheduled for an endoscopy. Well, there it was.... I have been on Aciphex twice a day for several months now and absolutely LOVE IT.

Question/Comment:

I, too, was taking Aciphex which was wonderful and was actually being given samples at my doctor's office. However, seems that those samples have literally dried up and no longer available. My Prescription Drug Plan does not cover Aciphex and was going to charge me $58 amonth for the pills. I am on a limited income and could dot even consider paying that sume of money. I am currently on a Zantac gereiic which is really not as effective at all. I take 150mg. twice a day and even add Protonix when needed. Am waiting for my new Drug Plan to start in January so can again being taking Aciphex. What a joke the pharmaceutical industry is!!!

Answer/Reply:

I have been taking Aciphex under a Canadian brand name of Pariet for the past several years. I obtain it from Extended Care Pharmacy Ltd in Calgary, Alberta. The last time I ordered my refill, they sent me a generic called Novo-Rabeprazole which is filled by their generic pharmacy, Novopharm. It is just as effective as American Aciphex without the terribly high cost! I highly recommend you search it out. Extended Care phone # is 1-800-648-9043.

Question/Comment:

I have a hiatal hernia with GERD. Prilosec OTC reacted with another medication I take. Aciphex has no interaction. It caused a headache for a few days when I first started, but I have been taking it daily for a year with no problems. It effectivel controls the reflux. I am concerned about an article I read that Aciphex can inhibit calcium absorption. Every time I refill it my insurance sends me a letter pushing me to use Prilosec OTC. They also CALL my doctor encouraging him to switch me to Prilosec. It's annoying but the insurance company is just doing their job controlling costs. The doctor just tells them I have a reaction to Prilosec and they are satisfied with his explanation.

Question/Comment:

Very expensive, but it works for me. I tried Prevacid, Nexium, and other OTC remedies and Aciphex has done better for me than any other med/remedy. My insurance also tried denying my claims and make me pay full price suggesting I tried Prilosec OTC or Nexium. My Dr. had to Fax them info regarding my previous usage of other meds and now the have approved it for three years... I dont understand their thinking process. Can they imagine anyone, not just me, wanting to voluntarily pay $180.00 per month for medication that could be replaced easily with OTC meds or a less expensive prescription medication? NOT.... I think I could easily find better ways to spend that kind of money if I had the choice.

Question/Comment:

Try Omeprazole it is the closest thing to a generic for Aciphex and it works for me. My Dr. said that any PPI needs to be taken on an empty stomach for the best effects, first thing in the AM w/water and nothing to eat or drink for 30-45 min. hope this helps.
