Question/Comment:
My name is Cortny. I'm 18 years old and a senior in high school. I've had over 10 MRIs just in the past year. I'm having terrible back pain and weakness. My legs go out on me, I'm having constant headaches, and I'm always tired. Some days it's so bad I can't even get out of bed. I've been four different hospitals in Pittsburgh, and four more in my area, but nobody seems to know what is wrong. I've had CT scans, MRIs, x-rays, tons of bloodwork done tried tons of meds, and even a spinal angiogram.

have your doctor give you the "trigger point test"..it is made specifically for Fibromyalgia. other than that, i can only tell you to keep your spirit strong and don't let the pain defeat you. I am 33 and have had fibromyalgia, RA, sciatica, depression, degenerative disc disease, first rib syndrome, multiple herniated and bulging discs and carpal tunnel (starting at different times) for the last 10 1/2 years. good luck to you :)

I am a 56 yr old male with relatively good health, active and devoted. I work daily, but suffer w/ insomnia for yrs, have tried natural products w/ little success only short sleep (maybe 2hrs), in addition, I have terrible weakness in legs, shoulders, lower back, hips, etc...my muscles ache constantly and I get short of breath w/ any strenous activity. I have tried multiple things from chiropractic to non steroid meds, but little help...I fear narcotic meds because a family history of parents, siblings have abused prescriptions. Any suggestions...I have searched fibromyalgi

You may want to make an appointment with a pain management specialist if you have had no relief from other treatments and doctors. They have a lot of experience in areas such as this. There are a few medications, like gabapentin (Neurontin), pregabalin (Lyrica), or amitriptyline that are not narcotics and may help with your type of pain.

57 yr old male - used to have good health - have insomnia - in addition have chronic nerve pain (upper back/neck)(lower back) with weakness in legs, arms and hands. Have been using Gabapentin,
Baclofen, Meloxicam, Tramadol as instructed by VA Pain Clinic. Pain still takes me down every day and evening. Do not want narcotic meds and do not respond to the heavy medications the VA
gave me. Searching for a method/way to lower the pain level from 8/9 level to maybe a 4.. that would be fantastic.

Some studies are showing that chronic pain can be due to a vitamin D deficiency. It would be a good idea to have your levels checked. Make an appointment to see if your physician will check your vitamin D level. There are prescription strength vitamin D pills that you can take if your levels are low. Also, you can talk to your physician about your medication options.

I have been using a "REBUILDER" unit for my diabetic neuropathy pain and have had great success with it. It is FDA approved as well as Medicare approved. Check the internet under REBUILDER MEDICAL if you are interested in getting relief from this type of pain.

Question/Comment:
I have had RSD since 2003 from an accident at work. I am a little miffed to not find this condition listed. I see my Pain Dr. every two months except when I have break through pain, then I see him ASAP! I am on so many meds I feel as if I should rattle when I walk. I have read some of your comments and my heart goes out to you all. My wife and two kids have been extremly supportive and I thank God for them each day. I am so glad I found this site where I can talk about my condition with others.

Answer/Reply:
I know exactly how the man with RSD feels. I have had it for 4 1/2 years and I have to say am on alot of medication, with little relief. My Dr is amazing. She is working with me, but I hate taking medication and suffer instead of going to see her!! Stupid I know, but I don't want to be doped up. I don't have the option of seeing a Pain Mgt Dr because I don't have Medical insurance. That is something I am looking into and know I should have.

iGuard Answer/Reply:
Typically patients with BPH (benign prostatic hypertrophy) have the following symptoms: pain or problems urinating, discolored urine or discomfort in the prostate area. The symptoms you mentioned above would not be typical of BPH and you should followup with your doctor for a full medical evaluation to determine their cause(s).
