Question/Comment:

I have never really had any negative reactions to my Coumadin. I take 2.5mg daily for three days then 5mgs on the fourth day so on and so forth. I have never lost my hair and cannot associate my weight gain to this medication. I take 19 medications per day twice a day for HOCM, Type 2 Diabetes, GERD/Acid Reflux, Mudullary Sponge Disease and suffer from health related depression. I have suffered 3 heart attacks and three mini strokes. I have an ICD/Pacer implanted. And I feel pretty damn good.

Question/Comment:

I have just had an ablation for SVT (fast heart rate). I have been put on Asprin 325 mg once a day for 12 weeks to prevent a blood clot or stroke. Is it safe to just stop taking it after 12 weeks cold turkey?

40 year old Female – Source: iGuard United States

iGuard Answer/Reply:

Aspirin is used to prevent blood clots or stroke right after minimally-invasive ablations, as you have stated. Studies have shown that the risk of blood clots or strokes decreases after 12 weeks, so that is why it is recommended to take the aspirin for 12 weeks. There are no "withdrawal" effects from suddenly stopping aspirin treatment. However, you may with to review your medical history with your physician to make sure there are no other cardiovascular risk factors that indicate you need aspirin treatment longer than 12 weeks.

Question/Comment:

Has any one out there suffered hair loss while taking Coumadin? I am taking 7 mg daily. I am trying to figure out why this is happening. I had a pacemaker put in three months ago. Had open heart prior to that for Mitral Valve repair and two ablations. Want to find out if this could be from the surgery trauma or the Coumadin. I also take Fosinopril 10 mg.

iGuard Answer/Reply:

Less than 1% of iGuard members report hair loss while taking Coumadin. According to the prescribing information for Coumadin, hair loss, or alopecia, is reported infrequently by patients taking Coumadin. Surgery does cause stress on the body which can lead to hair loss. Hair loss while taking fosinopril has not been reported by any patients. If your hair loss continues or worsens, please make an appointment to discuss it with your physician.

Question/Comment:

I have been on Coumadin 10 mg. M-F and 12.5 mg S-S and 11 months; however, I have a Greenfield Filter Placement. The first 2 episodes of Blood Clots (2003), (2006) I chose not to be anticoagulated. I had not one problem....This time, I signed a consent for treatment, I was so ill, and I was started first on Injectble Lovenox, Coumadin 8 hours later and Lovenox again, for 5 days and discharged to home. I began to have TIS'a and Suncopes. They rushed me to Shnds University where they could not come up with a diagnosis. My PCP, overdosed me to where my inr was >14, PTT 38 CRITICAL. Spent 11in hospital on Frozen Plasma and Vitamin K, before they could reverse the INR.

11 months later it continues. I have uncontrollable blood pressure, hypothyroidism, GERD, Acid Reflux, and my bowels never stop. I am in the bathroom sometimes 12-16 times a day. Nothing I eat or drink stays with me. In 3 months, I have lost 52 pounds, been punted to 17 different specialist, and they throw their hands up in the air. NO ONE wants to provide Quailty Health Care, just their greed for money. I have become bitter over the whole ordeal and wonder, is ' RAT POISON', is it really made for human consumption?
With a Greenfield filter in place, a home monitoring INR machine, why I must I go to the doctor weekly to have my INR done? For the $60.00 co-pay.Do not come to Florida and expect Quality Health Care!
PRESIDENT OBAMA IT IS TIME TO STOP THE ABUSE AND IRRETRIEVABLE BROKEN HEATHCARE SYSTEM IN THIS COUNTRY. IT IS MY "RIGHT" NOT A PRIVILEGE TO RECEIVE SAME. distantwings
