Question/Comment:
I have used Requip (Ropinarol) and Gabapentin for several years with fairly good results, so long as I remember to take on schedule (morning, noon and night). If I fall behind, I have big difficulties getting any rest in the evening. Although RLS is supposed to affect one most at night when relaxing, mine, for some reason, subsides when I go to bed. Although I am taking pretty much maximum dosage, they work well for me. Apparenly RLS is hereditary. My mother, I and my daughter all suffer from it.

Answer/Reply:
What are the dosages on the ropinirole. I was told I should not take more than 4 1/2 mg per day and that is just not enough. Some nights I walk the floor crying. My legs have also started bothering me more during the day than ever before.

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
The maximum dose of ropinirole studied for restless leg syndrome is 4mg per day. If your current dose is not helping, please make an appointment with your physician to discuss what other treatment options are available - perhaps a different medication or additional medication can help control your symptoms.

Question/Comment:
I had never dealt with RLS until I was pregnant in 2006. I still have it even now and just pretty much put up with it, as the Flexiril makes me very "jumpy" and I can't relax. I will see if my doctor will prescribe something different. At my most recent sleep study, the technician said my legs moved just about all night. I also had an MRI recently and had to be sedated for it. Although I was semi-awake, I kept hearing the technologist tell me to quit moving my legs! I'm curious what they say causes RLS.

Answer/Reply:
I have used Requip (generic is Ropinirole) for about 3 years and I think it works great. You can get varying dosages depending on your severity, and I take the max for RLS because mine is pretty severe, but the medicine works...Thank goodness beause RLS can drive me nuts.

Question/Comment:
In November (2nd or 3rd) while I was working as a caregiver I twisted my body to the left while my feet were still facing forward but didn't feel any pain till 4 - 5 (7th) days later after doing about 16 -17 loads of laundry. It made no sense to me that I had severe lumbar/lower back pain by the end of the day since I was used to that much laundry regularly for two years but when I went to get up the next morning which was the day I was to return to work after my scheduled days off I could bearly move. I went into work but was sent home. I made an appointment with my doc the same day and was prescibed Darvocet for pain and Cyclobenzaprine as a muscle relaxant but after two weeks of taking those meds I was still in so much pain and it felt like it got worse. The doctor then prescribed physical therapy and after 6 weeks I was in more pain and it had radiated to my sciatic nerve so the doctor scheduled me for a nerve conduction test and prescribed Flexerile but I was not able to fill the prescription so I was taking between 800 to 1,000 Mg of Ibuprofen just so I could bear the pain and then I was scheduled to go in for x-rays which I get the results of. Recently I have been feeling intense pain in my legs that makes sitting, standing, lying down painful. I can't stand for long before I have to sit down and when I do sit down it's not long before I have an ache like a knife or sharp object going into my thigh or the sensation in my calf of a hot poker. I know I am getting older but I am only 42 years old.
Could the injury to my back if severe enough be effecting my legs too?

Answer/Reply:
I have been using Mirapex 0.25 for over 9 years and I absolutely could not live without it! I am so very thankful to my neurologist, Dr. Mark Klafter of Orlando, FL for first of of all, diagnosing my difficulty as a "Familial Disorder". Having cared for a huband for over 11 years of two horrible Parkinsonian Disorders, I thought, "Oh no, dear God; don't tell me I have something similar"! My mind was put to rest by Dr. Klafter that it was not Parkinsonion, but familial and he knew immediately the medicationion on which I should be placed. It was Mirapex...I could not live the lifestyle I now enjoy without this medication as there would be NO WAY I could even attempt to rest, much less sleep! Thenk you Mirapex and many, many thanks to a wonderful Neurologist, Dr. Klafter!

Question/Comment:
I have had success using Flexeril 10mg before bedtime and on occasion Flexeril 10mg with Soma 350mg they are both muscle relaxants but have different mechanisms of action a glass of red wine may also help. in a severe attack I keep a Gel Pack in the freezer as I found a cold compress helps almost immeadiately....I am a Pharmacist with lumbar stenosis and pressure on the sciatic nerve right side.
