Question/Comment:

I have recently been diagnosised with a cyst in my kidney. Is this what a cystic kidney is? Also, my brother when he was younger they found that he had a kidney that never emptied, & ended up having to have emergency surgery to remove the "water ballon" kidney that was about to burst. I was never told that I should be aware of heredietary kidney problems when I get older, & I am concerned at this point if I had known maybe I might not be in this spot now with a cyst that needs to be kept up on it's growth etc... I have a lot of problems with bladder infections & this could have been a heads up for me if I had known that there could be an underlying condition that I should be leary of . Please let me know what I should ask my urologist next time I see him. I am to have an ultrasound to check and see what kind of progress if any has been going on.

Answer/Reply:

visit akkp.org for info on kidney disease, they have a free magazine called Kidney Beginnings which has info on stages of kidney disease, diet , and info on dialysis, and all stages of kidney disease. I wish I had had access to them before I hit stage 5. Good diet and preventative care can possibly keep you from getting worse.

Question/Comment:

I had 3 kidney infections in a row, and am diabetic although in excellent control. My doc added lisinopril, 10 mg. He said to protect my kidneys. When I have infections my temperature goes from 98.6 to 104 in 20 mins, but tylenol helps bring it down

Question/Comment:

I do not have high blood pressure, diabetes or kidney problems. I do not smoke and rarely drink. I am over weight. My tests show normal levels, my creatinine is within the normal range, and there was a microscopic amount of protein in my urine this last test which necessitates further tests. Fine. But, the Dr. prescribed Vasotec saying he didn't think my blood pressure would fall"too low". He answers no questions and offers no explanations or alternatives. After reading up on Vasotec I don't know which is scarier-Vasotec or potential kidney problems. Any thoughts. 63 female
