Question/Comment:

43 yr old female taking Lisinopril,Clonidine and Norvacs. Recently taken off norvacs and put on a Beta Blocker called Bystolic. And that was the biggest mistake, within 5 days my whole face swell up so bad it affected my hearing. I was swollen behind the ears, and neck. Scared me so bad. They've been over a year trying to get my pressure down. Im in the trying stages of meds. A normal pressure reading for me 160/97. i'm 5"6 and i weigh 130lb. I had to be falt lined about a year and a half ago but they havent given up on me yet. Any suggestions on what i should try next. And oh yea the norvacs made blothces light and dark on my face

Question/Comment:

Has anyone heard of a blood pressure medicine making their skin blotchy? I have been taking Maxzide for over 15 years and my face is different shades. My face is lighter on the nose and cheeks, but darker on the forehead, outer cheeks near my ears and my chin. It looks like an hour glass. One of the precautions is to stay out of direct sunlight which I try to do. Please let me know if anyone has heard about this and what can be done to fix it.

Answer/Reply:

Hi there, I don't have the problem you are having, but when I read your post it reminded me about the time the Dr. put me on Norvasc. My husband takes it everyday and handles it well. He put me on it and it sent me to the emergency room with a full body rash. Not just a little rash either, big itchy, hot rash. I told the dr. when I was in his office I had heard bad things about it, and like always they poo poo'd me, it's all in my head. No, now its all over my body.
I also lake Lisinopril and metropolol, I seem to get along fine with those. I also take Hytrin. I just started on it. my bp was around 130/75,for a long time, the doc didn't like it, so he started me on Hytrin. Now my bp is 115/60.

Question/Comment:

Thats interesting that you say that lisinopril raises your potassium level, because my blood work came back with exactly that. Ive been a bit nervous.

Answer/Reply:

I have been taking blood pressure medicines for 35 + years. Couldn't get the pressure down to near normal until my nephrologist put me on Diovan/hct, Pendil, and Coreg.
Finally my pressure is normal and sometimes below 120/80. My last reading was 110/67.

Try different drugs until you get the results you want.
Also you must exercise! I am 71 years old and female.
