Question/Comment:
Drink baking soda and water. Works wonders for heartburn and less expensive than prescription drugs. Also, Pepto Bismal works well for me also.

Answer/Reply:
YES. From what my doctor told me, GERD is caused from acid reflux. It is usualy described as GERD/acid reflux. Acid reflux is when the stomache produces too much acid which can cause heartburn. GERD is when that acid comes back up through the esophagus. GERD poses a threat of damage to the lining of the esophagus if not treated. I am not a doctor, but this subject was explained to me by my own doctor and my sons' pediatrition because myself and all 3 of my boys have been diagnosed with GERD/acid reflux. Hope this helps.

Yes, and you can help relieve it some, by raising the head of your bed about 8 inch's. this helps at night keep the acid's, down in the stomach and out of the esophogus.

Yes it is the same, I just wanted to say that one of the best things that has helped me is to wait at least 2 hours to lay down after eating-this is even a small snack, because it lays in your stomach as it diguests and the acid comes up in your throat causing posible damage. I have woken up choking from the un-digested food if I don't wait to lay down. I hope this helps some.

Thats right. I did not know about not eating 2 hours before bedtime. I awoke soon after with acid and small pieces of food coming up in my throat. I ate just before I fell asleep. The feeling is awful and I kept coughing like I had food stuck in my throat. I had to keep taking small sips of water, after about an hour or so I started to feel better. Now I am careful about eating anything for at least two hours before bedtime. I am on Protonix 40mg once a day. I am thinking about whining off of the Protonix and taking Aloe Vera Juice instead. I heard this stuff works wonders on the whole body. Anyone out there taking this? Any feed back would be deeply helpful.
Thanks,
