Question/Comment:
ARE THERE ANY NON-PRESCRIPTION MEDS I CAN TAKE FOR HIGH BLOOD SUGAR THAT WORK? I CAN ONY AFFORD ONE PRESCIPTION MED, METFORMIN, BUT, IT MAKES ME GAIN WEIGHT AND I WOULD PREFER TO USE SOMETHING ALL NATURAL, ANYWAY. I HAVE BEEN USING 1000MG TWICE A DAY OF THE CINNAMON CAPSULES AND HAVE SEEN SOME RELIEF IN MY NUMBERS. THE ONLY REASON I STAY OON THE METFORMIN IS IT ALSO SEEMS TO KEEP ME FROM HAVING CONSTANT YEAST INFECTIONS, IS THERE SOMETHING ELSE THAT WOULD WORK FOR THAT, I HAVE TRIED AZO AND IT DOESN'T REALLY HELP TOATLLY. IF ANYBODY HAS ANY SUGGESTIONS I WOULD APPRECIATE THE HELP. THANKS!

I haven't found any otc meds that work for high blood sugar. I too am taking Metformin twice daily. as for the yeast infections, try wiping from front to back that does stop them.

I am taking glimepiride and it has started giving me problems already. I was taking the metformin, well got a rash and hives form that. I take alot of medicines and I do not think that they are checking it before they just give me the meds, I just read the paper work on this and there are three meds on the drug interactions that I take, it really makes me upset if that is the case , I am sick enough as it is, I am going to call my doctor about the glucovonce?

I've been diabetic for well over 20 years and can tell you that the best way to gain control over high blood sugars is insulin. I have had several yeast infections over the years and still get them from time to time but with the insulin, I've not had one in several years. You're going to have to way the cost of prescription meds against the cost of getting otc meds for the infections. Also, stress can bring on yeast infections, in other parts of your body like your mouth (called Thrush).
With diet and exercise and insulin you can win the battle.

Betadine works wonders on yeast along with natural yougurt. Or you could try Lactobacilis Acidololis the natural culture in yougurt. Take 2-3 caps. with each meal. Be sure to keep them in the frig as the cultures are alive. Put Betadine on a cloth (TP etc) and wipe the area every time you pee. It will stop the itching and pain. It can be cheap at Wal Mart (generic.) Its the red stuff the docs wash infected areas with. Use it all the time to rid yourself of the bad stuff. Remember milk and fruit sugar feed the acidoplis. Regular sugars feed the yeast. This works for Athletes foot too.

Vitamin b1(100mg), b6(50mg), b2(100mg), chromium picilonate(200mcg). Once daily. Take the chromium opposite the b vitamins. In other words, b vitamiins day, chromium night.

If your pancreas doesn't work nothing, over the counter, supplements, etc. will help. It may be that you can help control your blood sugar with diet alone but that is doubtful and probably not very healthy. Most people aren't willing to or just can't really eat without eating any carbs. No bread, fruit, sweets, etc. Just not practical and it also isn't really healthy. Your body, brain need some carbs to function well. Exercise also works! It is one of the best, natural remedies for lowering glucose levels. If possible the combination of diet and exercise may help but depending on how well your body functions those alone may not get you. Meds work! If pills don't insulin will, it just depends on your bodies problem not making/producing insulin or being insulin resistant. Talk to you doctor, explain your financial situation and hopefully he can work with you to find a regime that works. Good luck!

Question/Comment:
I have taken many diabetic drugs, Metformin, glucophage, actros, janovia, all in strenth of 500..nothing higher..than one of my Dr's, said i should be on insulin, so i started on Novalog and lantus..both together did nothing more than my pills did..infact even taking higher cc's of it didi not help control my sugar, finally anither dr put me on Humulin 500, that stuff works but if i take a little or alot, i still get dizzy and my eyes get dialated and it's terrible. What I want to know being no one ever gave me a higher strenth of Metfomin or another pill..is there a way i can return to taking pills in a higher strenth, i think i am insulin tolerant anyhow. Im tired of taking a needle, I don't like it.

you need to work with your dr. they comonly use what pills thet think will work.Remember not all pills will work on all people. Ihave been a diabetic for 25 years and they have had me on all the pills and they don't work. Sometimes the insulin is better than the pills.
Insulin works better than pills espillaly if your type 1.

No 311 is way too high. What is your BMI? Google it! It tells you what your weight should be.

As an obese person your blood sugar is not to bad, but diet and exercise will sure make a difference in your daily life. i have been a type 2 diabetic for about a year. My usually runs 85-110.
i was laid off my job, and lost my insurance so i have not taken my prescibed medication for 3 months. i have tried all avenues in Gainesville, texas (Cooke,County) to get assistance with this matter. The fact of the matter is "No money or insurance you are just out of luck!"
if you have an suggestions, please e-mail me at:texastwister69@suddenlink.net.
thanks, and good luck with your health.
