Answer/Reply from iGuard:

Unfortunately an allergy to aspirin also means you might be allergic to other common pain medications like Motrin or Advil (Ibuprofen) and Aleve (Naproxen). It's a good idea to talk to your doctor about your aspirin allergy and how it will affect which pain medications you can take.

Answer/Reply from iGuard:

Although many drugs contain sulfa - the sulfa-containing compound that commonly causes allergic reactions in people is found in drugs such as Bactrim (a common antibiotic), in thiazides (a common class of diuretics often used for high blood pressure), and in sulfonylureas (a medication used for diabetes).

In most cases, there are alternatives to these medications and other sulfa containing medications- always inform your health care providers (doctor, nurse, pharmacist, etc.) about your allergies to medications so they can take this into consideration when providing care.

The best way to learn about specific drugs you are taking is to look them up in the iGuard system and see what other people are saying and post additional questions specific for those drugs.

Question/Comment:

Allegra-D 24 hour Generic caused joint pain in knees. Discontinued medication and after a week joints are back to normal. Unfortunate because the meds worked great for sinus allergy. Switched to Benadryl.

Answer/Reply:

I didn't know you could get joint pain from allergy meds. That is scary. I have had to be on pain meds for the last 3 years and I think that at times my meds are making my pain worse. Thank you for sharing your experience!
