Question/Comment:
My history with Migraines goes back to my early twenties. Back then I experienced a feeling of impending "doom" prior, heavyness in the arms, visual aura and then an intense headache lasting for 24 hours. Now, at my present age all these symptoms have either diminished in frequency and intensity or no longer appear, such as the feeling of "doom", heavyness. My concern: Sustaining damage to the brain from all the years of having these headaches? I read recently there is a higher risk of stroke.

iGuard Answer/Reply:
People who have migraine with aura are at a slightly higher risk of stroke. The symptoms of migraine headaches are due to dilation of the blood vessels. Although the link between stroke and migraine isn't clearly understood, it may be connected to changes in the blood vessels or blood flow in your brain from the migraines.
If you are concerned about your stroke risk, please have a follow up discussion with your doctor - there are other risk factors for stroke that you may be able to modify to reduce your overall risk. This includes smoking, taking birth control pills or having high blood pressure.
