Answer/Reply:
I suffer from severe back & leg pain.
No pain meds worked for me. Percocet, hydromorphine tabs, The only relief was a morphine patch called "fentanyl" it is on for three days and then you replace it with another one.
It prevents the highs & lows of pain. It keeps you stable so that you can function like a normal person. (no driving though). It worked for me. GOOD LUCK........

Question/Comment:
I had back surgery in September of 08. I'm taking Oxycodone for pain and it just helps to a certain degree. Now I'm having real bad lower back pain, that makes my legs and feet hurt real bad. I also takes Lyrica, but that's not working. My legs hurt me so bad if I stand and walk for awhile. Now my doctor got me taking methocarbamol. With all the medicine that I'm taking i'm really scared. On top of all this I have Lupus and it's flaring up. Please help.

Answer/Reply:
Please discuss with your doctor about adding so many meds for your pain.Sometimes, these meds may have interactions or cruel side affects. Be aware of your meds and how much is given within mgs. oxycodone is a serious narcartic and if not careful it does lead to addiction.
It can be deadly. So if the meds are not helping, let you Doc know. This is very important.'
Take Care.( I do not mean to discourage you. I had a daughter that was given Oxycodone and there was an interaction with her other meds. I do not need to let you know what happened.
Better to be safe than sorry!

Definitely discuss all symptoms with your specialist (rheumatologist, neurologist, internist -- whomever you see for your lupus). I also have SLE and have suffered from every manifistation of the disease you can think of. Not sure if you are taking immunosuppresent drugs, but if your are and are also taking any type of cholesterol drugs (esp. Statin drugs), beware that there are adverse reactions (speaking experientially). Because of my adverse drug reaction, I ended up with myopathy resulting in unbearable muscle weakness/pain. It was to the point where I could barely move, let alone walk. After hospitalization and a full blood workup, my specialists (hospitalist, internist, rheumatologist, neurologist, endocrinologist and hemotologist) all concluded as a result of a CPK enzyme test, that my myopathy was definitely caused by adverse drug reactions and they dc'd me on Vytorin immediately. My symptoms ceased within a couple of days and my CPK levels eventually stabilized to more therapeutic readings.
As you know, every lupus patient is different ("special"), so best to get a full blood workup to check all enzyme levels -- sorry, but yes, more diagnostic tests are necessary. Don't be discouraged, God is merciful and only gives you situations in your life that you are able to handle. And remember, when you're not able to walk yourself, He is carrying you! I've been suffering with lupus for 20+ years and today, 6/2/09, is my 15-year kidney transplant anniversary :-) By the way....I'm not that much older than yourself! There's hope for us yet!! God Bless US!
