Question/Comment:
I take many Medications for many reasons, some act for more than one problem, like I have been on Amitriptyline/ Elavil, however I also take Medication for other reasons, which also help for sleepless nights like Ambien CR, or like Neurontin.. By the time I do take my medication for the morning to night time pills, I do sleep now after what I call my cocktail.

Question/Comment:
due to severe panic attacks, I have developed a fear of going to sleep, and as crazy as this may seem, I can take 2 benydryl tablets, and drift off to slleep and sleep like a baby. I was on ambian for about 2 years, and found that I get the same effect from a one dollar bottle of itch pills, that I did from a 40 dollar perscription of sleeping pills.

Question/Comment:
I also too suffer from chronic insomnia. It has gotten worse over the years and have started with melatonin and velarian root to no avail. The psychotropics caused me to be sucidal so can not take those. When regular ambien came out on the market it worked until finally it did not wortk only slept no more than 2 hours before I was awake again and could not go back to sleep. I have a couple of comprehensive sleep studies done and teh sleep specialists came back that Ambien CR was the best medication for me at this time. I have chronic insomnia with some parasomnal abnormalities as well. I have been hospitalized twice for sleep deprovation, not the psych ward, but regular medical ward because my body started to shut down. I had been awake for 10+ days both times. Lack of sleep can kill as your begins to shut down from the lack of sleep in order to try to preserve the most crucial parts your brain. I hope no one else has to go go through what I have gone through and if insomnia is bad enough get a comprehensive sleep study done to see if you have any sleep disorders and the sleep specialist can then help find ways to ease the insomnia and help with proper sleep hygiene
