FDA Communication Regarding Musculoskeletal Pain

The FDA today issued a statement regarding the possibility of severe bone, joint and/or muscle pain in patients taking bisphosphonates such as . This pain can occur within days, months or years after starting treatment, and seems to get better if treatment is temporarily or permanently discontinued. Although this possibility is included in the prescribing information for these products, it is apparently often overlooked by healthcare professionals, delaying diagnosis and unnecessarily prolonging the problem for patients.
